Episode 13: Yoga
Thursday Jul 29, 2010
Thursday Jul 29, 2010
Merry meet and welcome to Episode 13 of Pennies in the Well! Thanks for downloading, I hope you enjoy. :) Aside from a love of ridiculously long words this episode, in the intro I remind you of the current contest to win a Tricky Pixie cd of Mythcreants signed by SJ Tucker & Betsy Tinny. Just email me at penniesinthewell@gmail.com (there's a lovely button the website that will take you straight to that) and tell me in 3 words or 30 how you experience in the divine. The draw will be at the end of August. Also, Inanna of Misanthrope Press let me know of a pagan fiction anthology they will be putting out in spring of 2011. Submissions are open from Sep 1 of this year until Oct 31st. See their website for details. Then we get into the yoga. With me in this episode is Tyson (you may remember him from episodes 3, 4 and 5 on the Book of the Law) of Media Astra Ac Terra and a bumper from Fire Lyte at Inciting a Riot. This episode ends with a Divine Body segment where we take a quick look at the root chakra and I read a brief piece from The Body Sacred by Dianne Sylvan. Thank you for taking the time to listen. Blessings of the deep and wild to you. Saturn

E12ish Mad Hatter: Pan!!!
Sunday Jul 25, 2010
Sunday Jul 25, 2010
Yes, this is a mad hatter special! And it's all about Pan. Pan! Pan! he's our man! With Crowley's Hymn to Pan, the Homeric Hymn to Pan, the Orphic Hymn to Pan, some flute playing by yours truly, a reading from Invoke the Gods by Kala Trobe and finishes with Aphrodite and Pan by Kellianna. Whew, wasn't that a lot all in one breath? But it's Pan, so craziness must ensue! Enjoy? Saturn!

Episode 11: Beauty
Wednesday Jul 14, 2010
Wednesday Jul 14, 2010
Merry meet and welcome to one and all! Yes, episode 11 is finally out! Thanks to all of your for downloading the show. And don't forget to email me with your experience of the divine for your chance to win a signed copy of Mythcreants by Tricky Pixie. In the opening segment I read Chapter 11 of Crowley's Book of Lies [**NOTE**: In the episode I refer to it as the Book of the Law - that was a mistake brought on by daylight and my own foolish brain-to-mouth connection problem, it isn't book of the law, it's the book of lies!] and let you in on the secret topic of the week: Beauty in the context of a wiccan virtue as suggested by Doreen Valiente's Charge of the Goddess. After a discussion on the joys of vacationing, we take a brief break and listen to Beauty of the Earth and Let My Eye Go to the Sun by Parnassus, the band later to be known as Chalice and Blade followed by a promo of The Wigglian Way. Then it's all about beauty. I read The Chance to Love Everything by Mary Oliver from her book Dream Work. I also mention Etsy and Regretsy. Take a small break and pull the 4 of cups and the rune Mannaz for Episode 11 and then play a promo for The Infinite and the Beyond. I finish with a brief discussion on ugliness and then close out with I Hear You Calling by Chalice and Blade. I hope you enjoy. Blessings of the deep and wild to you all, Saturn

Episode 10: Widdershins Circles
Sunday Jun 20, 2010
Sunday Jun 20, 2010
Merry meet and welcome to Episode 10! Wow, how did we get here so fast? It's been a great trip and made worthwhile by all of you who listen, so thank you for downloading the show! Podkin love to the fellow podcasters as well. And now let's get into the heart of the episode: But first, there will be a contest. Submit your name and some aspect of how you like to celebrate the divine (or not) to penniesinthewell@gmail.com by August 20, 2010 and you could win a copy of Mythcreants by Tricky Pixie signed by S.J. Tucker and Betsy Tinney!! Now on to the topics. I discuss some of what I have learned over the last couple of weeks, including the joys of mead and my need for security within my home. I also highly recommend listening to Episode 20 of Media Astra Ac Terra for Oraia's discussion on emotion and intellect. Break 1: Played Taglio by Tricky Pixie and a promo for Velma Nightshade's WitchesBrewHaHa. Then a nice long discussion on widdershins circles, some cautions, some how-to's, some likely results. Break 2: Me singing the chant Infinite Sun from an archive of Pagan Chants of the Month Archive, followed by a promo from Standing Stone and Garden Gate. Finishing off I read Chapter 10 from Aleister Crowley's Book of Lies (here's a copy off of Invisible House's website) and discuss working on dark moons. Closing out the show we have for your listening pleasure, Dryad's Promise also from Tricky Pixie. I hope you enjoy the show! Saturn

Abysmal Witch (1) - Healing Spell
Tuesday Jun 08, 2010
Tuesday Jun 08, 2010
Merry meet to one and all, And welcome to the inaugural show stealing segment: The Abysmal Witch. It is all ritual, all the time, with a bit of explanation thrown in for fun, okay, for clarity. In the intro I quote the first verse of the Witches Creed by Doreen Valiente. With a little garageband effect over top which really was just for fun. During the show I play The Celts by Enya in the background, read the Witches Rune by Doreen Valiente and Gerald Gardner together (though the Eko Eko Azarak part at the end is considered typically part of a different chant). I discuss the ritual very briefly at the end so please ask me questions if I didn't explain or say enough about what I was doing! Actually, any feedback on it would be greatly appreciated given that this was rather a departure from 'typical' podcasting. Finally, I mention my blog: The Abysmal Witch. And that, as they say, is that. Blessing of the deep and wild upon you. Saturn, The Abysmal Witch

E9ish Mad-Hatter: A Perfect Day
Saturday May 29, 2010
Saturday May 29, 2010
Merry meet and thank you for downloading episode 9...ish of Pennies in the Well. Yes, this is a Mad Hatter episode brought to you by the leaves of the trees. :D In and amongst the insane ramblings of someone who shall remain nameless, on the topic of a Perfect Day, I read "Sunflowers" by Mary Oliver and play a promo from Velma Nightshade of Witches Brew Ha Ha, the Ballad of the Boy Cat by Tricky Pixie and finish with Rum Tum Tugger from the Broadway Musical Cats. Have yourself a most marvelously perfect day. Saturn

Episode 8: Darkness and Shadow Work
Thursday May 20, 2010
Thursday May 20, 2010
Merry meet to one and all! It feels like forever since our last sharing! And yet, so very little time has passed in the grand scheme of things. Episode 8 starts off rather familiarily with my sharing a variety of things I've learned and a bunch of shout outs to wonderful podcasts who have been spreading the word of pennies. So many fun ways to take that, but I am supposed to be focussing on show notes. If you want to know who, you'll need to listen to the show, and right until the very end, too :) Our first break features Dragonfly by Kan'nal off of their album Myth Magic and a bumper by the amazing, the stupendous, the fiery Fire Lyte over at Inciting a Riot. And my notes deleted themselves form last night, so here's re-adding on the fly. During the main segment, instead of talking about Widdershins circles and dark moon workings as I intended, we delve into darkness and shadow work, what it is and why it's important to do it. I mention a favourite book for this topic, Dark Moon Mysteries by Timothy Roderick. During the second break we learn that Episode 8 of Pennies is brought to us by the tarot the eight of spears and the runestone nied/nadir. And we enjoy a promo from the Wigglian Way. In closing we discuss an email question from Oraia Sphinx at Media Astra Ac Terra about body work and the results of it. Finally we close out with another song from Kan'nal's album Myth Magic, this one entitled Open Channel. Thank you so much for downloading the show and taking the rather lot of time necessary to listen to it. Blessing of the deep and wild to you. Saturn

Mad Hatter Ep. 7 & a 2: Sadness
Monday Apr 26, 2010
Monday Apr 26, 2010
Can you believe I'm back already? Neither can I. It must be an illusion of the day. Yes, it's a mad hatter episode, a rather strange one seeing as it's all about sadness. Yes, that's right, sadness. I'm feeling sad and decided it was the perfect time to talk about that subject. WARNING: this show therefore has the potential to induce sadness in the listener. Please don't listen if you don't want to be thinking about such things. This is a completely unedited episode. One take, beginning to end, nothing changed or cut. Ay karumba! I mention Sarah, the Witch of Forest Grove and the Society for Creative Anachronism. And sadness. There's a whole lot of talk about sadness. I also attempt to sing at the end a very old song called Three Ravens, here's the wikipedia link to its history (though the lyrics I know are slightly different). Loving hugs to any and all who need one. Saturn

Episode 6: Cosmology of Self Pt 2, Beltaine Fun & Sex
Thursday Apr 22, 2010
Thursday Apr 22, 2010
Merry meet, one and all! Yes, we're back to a 'normal' episode, if normal can ever be the right word. We start off with Meredith Luce's Pennies in the Well as the intro, per usual and it's straight into a few more things I've learned recently. Ouches included. I mention during this segment: Nikiah, a glorious woman and shaman, Sarah, and a local festival called the Gathering. In the first break I hope you enjoy listening to Temple Gates by James Asher off of his album Shaman Drums and we have a promo from Oraia of Media Astra Ac Terra (podkin love!). Then we head into part 2 of my cosmology of the Self. It's a rambling trip, but we make it through in the end, yay! I make reference in it to the Vicia and Feri tradition's website. Break number two is very short, and we learn that Episode 6 is brought to us by the tarot card The Tower and the rune stone Eihwaz (yes, I was taught to pronounce it with an 'r', and habits die hard!). In the final segment I share a couple of fun traditions my community enjoys during its Beltaine and I share my public service announcement on healthy sexual behaviour and communication at times like these. We close out the show with another song from James Asher, this one Janjara, also off of I guess you could call the feature album of Shaman Drums. I hope you enjoy. Much love, Saturn

Episode 5: Book of the Law, Chapter 3
Friday Apr 09, 2010
Friday Apr 09, 2010
By gods, we're here, the last night of the reading of the Book of the Law. It must be April 10th. Merry meet, to one and all! In the conclusion of this mini-series, we start with a poem by my covenmate Holly, a poem written from Kore's perspective as she's about to be dragged down into the underworld by Hades. We break with the song "Today" by Todd Allen of www.todd-alan.net, a fitting tribute to the theme of the night, I thought. And then we're back with Tyson reading for us the third and final Chapter of Aleister Crowley's Book of the Law. The next break brings a promo from Feithline Stuart of Spiritscast podcast, www.spiritscast.com and, of course, a tarot & rune pull (which I believe were the Lovers and, I think, Fehu, but don't quote me on that). Sloan and Tyson finish off their interview series with me with a discussion of the final chapter, a definite must listen to, and then we close out the show with Tiller's Folly (a local band) "Water at the Bar" off of A Ripple in Time (www.tillersfolly.com). It was a fast and crazy journey, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do. If I'd figured out our regular programming yet, we'd be headed back to it, but I've got some additional ideas of fun to be had, so you'll hear from me soon, I'm quite certain. Until then, may you have beautiful dreams. Saturn

Episode 4: Book of the Law, Chapter 2
Thursday Apr 08, 2010
Thursday Apr 08, 2010
And we're back! Just like that, with the reading of Chapter 2 of the book of the law. After a brief introduction, we slip straight into a break where we play "Tomb of the King" by Damh the Bard (www.paganmusic.co.uk) off his album "The Cauldron Born". Tyson reads for us again, this time Chapter 2. We have a brief break with a promo from Juniper and Bren of Standing Stone and Garden Gate podcast (www.stonegatepodshow.net) and a tarot/rune pull and it's straight back into discussion with the boys of Invisible House (www.invisiblehouse.org) about Chapter 2. Just before hearing the final song of the night, which was "The Tongue (Like a Little)" by Max Pashm off of Never Mind the Balkans (www.maxpashm.com), we have a couple of interview outtakes for my, and hopefully your, listening pleasure. Can you believe there's only one more Chapter left to go?

Episode 3: Book of the Law, Chapter 1
Wednesday Apr 07, 2010
Wednesday Apr 07, 2010
Merry meet, one and all, I am very pleased to present the first of a three episode series on the Book of the Law. We open with an introduction by Sloan and Tyson of Invisible House (www.invisiblehouse.org) of each other, their practice, Aleister Crowley and the Book of the Law. During the first break we listened to Robert Gass & On Wings of Song's "Ancient Mother" (www.sacredunion.com). Then Tyson reads Chapter 1 of the Book, followed by a break with a promo by Tegan Lleuad of the podcast Moonshine (www.moon-shine.org) and a tarot & rune pull by yours truly. During the final segment, Tyson and Sloan share their opinions on the first Chapter as well as their group's particular practices for the actual nights of the reading. The show is closed with Nina Simone's "I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl" (www.ninasimone.com). We'll be back tomorrow for Chapter 2. Saturn

Everything's Prepared for the Book of the Law
Tuesday Apr 06, 2010
Tuesday Apr 06, 2010
Hello, salutations and greetings of many natures! The Book of the Law three part series is prepared and ready and waiting to go live. I'll be publishing the episodes on what is, for me, the night before the official days so that anyone in any time zone should, I think, have the chance to listen to the episodes on the 'proper' days. So the release dates will be, in PST (-8GMT, but I forget if that accounts for daylight savings...) ~ 10 p.m. on each of April 7, 8 and 9. I truly hope you enjoy. Saturn

Promo - A lively version
Saturday Apr 03, 2010
Saturday Apr 03, 2010
Well, what can I say? I couldn't resist. While my topics may be serious, my heart will always have a place of lightness in it, if not a heavy dollop of silliness. And thus sprang into being this second promo, a much more 'lively' one. I hope anyone listening enjoys it, and to any podcaster who should choose to play it, thank you! Happy today! Saturn

Promo
Saturday Apr 03, 2010

Merry meet to all who read this. It felt very strange, but I did manage to make a properly decorous promo for the show. To any podcaster who may play it, my sincere thanks. :) Saturn

Episode 2.5: Mad-Hatter special on Hades & Persephone
Saturday Apr 03, 2010
Saturday Apr 03, 2010
Yes, that's right, a nip of insanity sipped into the evening of wind and storm, and led to inspiration that needed to be shared! First we have some catch up of recent events, including mention of the wonderful botanicals by Sarah at www.forestgrovebotanica.com. Plus the foolishness of people and the importance of friends, particularly for pointing out our own foolishness. In the break we listen to a short clip of The Brady Bunch singing "Time to Change" off their It's a Sunshine Day album, very short, it's okay, don't fret. Then the Arrogant Worms' "Me Like Hockey" from their album Semi-Conducted (www.arrogantworms.com), a promo from Fire Lyte at Inciting a Riot, and learn that this special Mad Hatter episode of Pitw is brought to you by the tarot card the Hierophant and the rune stone Nadir/Need. In the second (and final segment), I discuss briefly the word 'rape' and then outline very briefly the Demeter/Kore/Persephone myth as an introduction to the piece that I wrote today and was the inspiration for this episode. The piece is written from the point of view of Hades and he speaks to Kore as he goes to the surface to take hold of her as his Wife. The final song is "Caide Sin Don Te Sin?" by Clannad on their Banba album. Their website is www.clannad.ie. I hope you enjoy this Mad Hatter special and I will travel with you again on April 8, 9, and 10th for the Book of the Law episodes. Saturn

Book of the Law episodes
Saturday Mar 20, 2010
Saturday Mar 20, 2010
Merry meet, one and all, Just a quick note to let you know that tonight Sloan and Tyson from Invisible House very graciously sat with me for well over an hour recording interview for the reading of the book of the law. The episodes will be published on the traditional nights of April 8, 9, and 10. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, well, it will all get explained in the episodes, but the shortest statement I can make is that we will be reading and discussing the Book of the Law that was written (or transcribed or given to, etc.) Aleister Crowley in 1904. I had a great time doing the interviews (and broke my interview cherry, and so much earlier than I expected!) and they are great speakers so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. And hopefully my equipment was good enough for sound. So look for those episodes starting April 8th, and I'll be back with a regular show probably a couple of weeks after that. Saturn.

Episode 2: Cosmology of Self & An Invitation
Sunday Mar 14, 2010
Sunday Mar 14, 2010

In this episode I share about: Opening Segment: - Intro music is Pennies in the Well by Meredith Luce - Podcasts I listen to (and I wish I had time for more): Cory & Laine at newworldwitchery.wordpress.com, Mojo and Sparrow at www.thewigglianway.ca, Fire Lyte at www.incitingariot.com, Feithline at www.spiritscast.com, Bob MacDonald of Quirks and Quarks at www.cbc.ca/quirks, Sarah at www.hedgefolktales.com - Things That I Learned Since the Last Show, which included the importance of sleep; a visit to the stone lady, Christine at www.stonehavengems.com, who is going to do a couple of interviews with me, one on stones and another on kundalini dance; a visit with Fritz and his covenmate & elder & my friends discussing Jung, how some words and practices evoke ideas of a women only environment and a learning moment for me about how my anger towards my vet was really anger towards my self; looking up and thinking outside of myself; and hopefully arranging for a reading and discussion over three nights in April of Crowley's Book of the Law (stay tuned for further information on this one!) with reference to Invisible House at www.invisiblehouse.org, please note that is .org not .com. Break 1: - Dagger of the Moon by Emerald Rose (www.emeraldrose.com) - Episode 2 brought to you by the tarot 5 of Cups and rune Fehu Segment 2: - A YWMV segment on Saturn's Cosmology of the Self, focusing on the connection of spirit and body, the connections we have with our bodies and our spirits, and the beginning of what that looks like from a holistic point of view, to be continued... - books mentioned were The Kybalion by Three Initiates, The Emerald Tablet by Dennis William Hauck, and The Warlock in Spite of Himself by Christopher Stasheff (note, I got the author wrong in the podcast). Break 2: - Stoner report on Scapolite and Zoisite with Ruby, information read from Robert Simmons and Naisha Ahsian's The Book of Stones - Promo from New World Witchery podcast, check them out at http://newworldwitchery.wordpress.com/ Segment 3: - my invitation to you, if you so desire, to take this beyond just something to listen to for ideas or entertainment (though you are certainly welcome to simply enjoy it on that level!) and actually try out some of the meditations or practices or explore the ideas being presented, always remembering that working on our inner nature can be a little dangerous so take care of yourself! Closing: - Before the Twilight Falls by Emerald Rose (www.emeraldrose.com) I hope you enjoy the show, 'Til merry we meet again, may your dreams be beautiful, Saturn p.s. I will work on learning how to make real hyperlinks in this thing. :)

Up on iTunes! and technical difficulties?
Tuesday Mar 02, 2010
Tuesday Mar 02, 2010
Merry meet, one and all! Yes, episode one is up on iTunes if you prefer to do your downloading from there. If you're listening from the site, for some reason this episode came out ridiculously quiet. I have some ideas on how to possibly avoid that in the future, but doubt I can fix it this time 'round. And if you are listening, thank you! And I truly hope you enjoy (despite the first podcast roughness of it). Happy dreaming, Saturn

Episode 1: Mostly about me
Monday Mar 01, 2010
Monday Mar 01, 2010
Merry meet, one and all, Phew! It's done, it's up, and I sincerely hope you enjoy the show. I also hope you'll be gentle with me, it's my first time ;) As the title says, this episode is mostly about me, well, me and the podcast, but it seems fitting that you get the chance to know me, at least a little, before we embark on the more interesting parts of the journey. I promise, next show will be mostly about you! A lot of people were involved in the making of this podcast and my thanks go out again to them all: Meredith Luce for the theme song, pareeerica for the logo and picture, Sarah for getting the website up and running, my covenmates and friends for being so supportive of this project, and a special acknowledgement to Mojo & Sparrow at the Wigglian Way for being so gosh darn inspiring! (Mojo, if I can make you blush, my life will be complete lol) I also played with rather joyful abandon two arrogant worms songs, Pressure Washer and I am Cow, both available from their website, and Pink's Crystal Ball off her album Funhouse. Thank you for listening! Till merry we shall meet again, I wish you all beautiful dreams. Saturn
